★☆Priest CT☆★

The young producer spent his first few years of ‘trancing’ simply enjoying the music, embracing the lifestyle and studying the true essence of this phenomenal way of life. One could say that he had seen the proverbial light.

In my studies; I learnt that trance music was born in a time when the world was in dire straits, global conflicts were the order of the day and the masses were being force fed propaganda, coxed into conforming to the societal norms outlined by the powers that be.

Early March of 2015 saw the ordination of the psytrance artist we now know as Priest; and even though the title has been my nickname for all of his adult life, this was the birth of someone completely new. The moniker itself is by no means religiously binding but at the same time is not merely a baseless gimmick that sounds cool. No; what you get when you encounter Priest is a young man, pure of heart, teaching without even preaching a word but using his own life as an example to spread his message: live as cleanly a life as you possibly can.

My music has been described by some listeners as ‘authentic, playful and clever’ and ‘innovative, groovy and psychedelic all in one,’ while others go on to say that: “Priest’s music is the culmination of dedication, passion and love.” What is most significant about the listener ship that Priest has built so far, is that it is made up of people who really love trance music as well as people who don’t really listen to trance, but simply enjoy good music.

sway :: [swey]
★ the ability to exercise influence over ★ to affect emotionally ★ to swing rhythmically back and forth

The connection that Sway has with Psytrance has spanned most of her adult life. As a young aspiring photographer, the outdoor party scene in Cape Town inspired her with the vibrant colors, insane art installations, interesting people in beautiful clothing and the intense, gripping music.

She took to the decks for the first time with three disks: Refractions , a VA by Timecode called Firewall and the now infamous “I’m the Supervisor” album – an unlikely combination to say the least, but one that most likely what gave rise to her eclectic style.
It took just three months for her to master the art of mixing music and now, almost nine years later, she has become an integral part of Psytrance Culture in Cape Town.

This DJane’s insatiable appetite for the music she loves and the fans that love her have landed her on the same stage with amazing Cape Town legends like Protoculture, Headroom, the Commercial Hippies, Shift and more as well as on supporting line ups for the genres biggest international stars - Dapanji, CPU, Mekkanikka, Bizarre Contact, Exaile, Talamasca, Hujaboy, Sinful Reactions, Orca, Tryambaka, Menog, Skazi, Dark Soho and Shane Gobi and Pixel to list a few.

Being undeterred by the fact that this is predominantly a summer industry, she is a regular favourite during winter and her sets are enjoyed in clubs from Stellenboch to the City Centre, every week and sometimes twice.

The unconventional energy that she brings to a line-up has changed and evolved many times during her journey with the music and it’s culture - a metamorphosis that has spanned nearly a decade, yet she still looks forward to each opportunity to bring very her distinctive mixing technique and full on selection of tracks to the dance floor, no matter how big or intimate the event.
This is evident in her unabated ability to constantly push the boundaries within herself and on their productions, looking for new avenues to entertain, connect and inspire!

This is a DJ who prefers not to prepare a set, instead she relies more on the exchange of energy between herself and the dance floor, a “psymbiotic” relationship which she believes is in a constant state of flux. Her sets have been described as "otherworldly beauty, bouncy fun and powerful darkness, all blended into one musical collage of psy-trance"
“I am a DJ. This music I play is mine to share with the dance floor, not mine to take credit for, but the arrangement of that music is. I have a responsibility not only to dance floor, but to the producers of the tracks I play, and that’s some heavy shit”
She has a great deal more to her credit than just sharing the dance floor with some of the biggest international psytrance artists.
This DJane and mother of two amazing, demanding and beautiful children has been involved in nearly aspect of the scene, but she is best loved for the unique and powerful female flavour that she contributes not only as a resident DJ, but as one of the three partners and owners of Beartrap Productions, parties which have garnered cult-like status on home soil and continue to receive global recognition from the international psytrance community.

Over the years, Beartrap Productions, has proven to be a formidable part of the industry and as part of that powerhouse, she has been instrumental in exposing the local fans to a massive amount of international talent and debuting up and coming producers and DJ’s.

During the sublime Cape Town summer, Beartrap hosts three top class, outdoor electronic music festivals, in November, February and March, as well as being involved in smaller collaborative events and managing the productions for two record labels, all of which have enjoyed steady growth in the number of supporters and fans.

She lives by her ethos: love::dance::sway and you will find her gracing the dance floor, lost in the music, as often as you will find her sharing her music from the stage.
